Raptor Jesus: virtually all you never expected to know
First suggestion, there's something we should make clear: the writer of the next few paragraphs implies no disrespect to the Catholic faith. Moreover, it can be argued that even theindividuals that make these pics in the first place aren't looking to offend Catholics.
Referring to this as an arranged attack on Christianity (as some people have) is an absolute overstatement. Do you really think Christ would be so angered with a simple parody? Having made this crucial point, let's now proceed to the actual content.
Raptor Jesus is a peculiar persona, bearing the head of a Raptor juxtaposed on artistic renderings of Jesus Christ. In other words, this can be referred to as a Meme, or a absurd prank that spreads like the flu. There's something about the Internet that just seems to encourage this kind of thing.
The extremely humble roots of Raptor Jesus!
If you think there's a really advanced back story behind this, sorry to let you down. Long story short, Raptor Jesus was first seen at the Internet boards known as 4chan. Long story short, some teenager came up with the notion of pasting a Raptor head on a illustration of Jesus Christ. For some reason, people discovered that was rather funny, and soon everyone and their non-religious aunt was post similar images. Lo and behold, an Internet meme was as a result born.
Fast forward a couple of years, Raptor Jesus is the stuff of tale, having shown up across TV shows, magazines, conventions and every imaginable media. Some people (specially hind sighted spiritual folks) tend to be terribly offended at the sight of such thing. Since they made such a huge impact, the influx of outrage towards this "creation" genuinely encouraged the 4chan participants to keep elaborating on new crazy images. So long as you can find people in the world, there will be people who find themselves easily angered, and people who enjoy making others mad. Adore it or hate it, this is simply how the globe works... action and reaction.
Do you really think this is such a terrible and offensive concept, after looking at this?
Even Jesus Himself would be confused thinking "what is the ruckus all about?". It definitely feels like this Raptor Jesus factor was blown out of proportion on both ends. In a way, Jesus might genuinely approve of this, since he always told people not to praise idols (including Himself). A shame that most folks who are assumedly Christians often fail to realize this paradox. Religion is supposed to be about confident emotions, such as Love, Pleasure and Reverence. If you feel that a foolish picture merging representations of Jesus and dinosaurs is a clear sign this profane world is getting close to irrevocable tragedy¦ frankly, you'll want to calm down and re-think your main concerns.
